What a cookie is

A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to remember. The next time you open the site, your browser sends it back. That is how a site can remember something from your last visit, such as which language you chose.

Some cookies are necessary for the site to behave the way you expect. Others are optional, and those are only set if you say yes.

Necessary cookies

These are set by Splenix, they live on splenix.com, and they cannot be switched off without the site failing to behave properly. None of them holds anything that identifies you.

• splenix_language. Remembers whether you read Norwegian or English, so you land in the right place when you open splenix.com. Lasts one year.
• splenix_consent. Remembers whether you said yes or no to analytics, along with which version of the question you answered and when. Lasts six months.

Google Analytics is optional

Splenix uses Google Analytics to see how many people visit the site and which pages get read. The purpose is to understand what is useful, so the content can get better. It is not used for advertising, and it is not used to identify you as a person.

Analytics is not loaded in advance. Before you say yes, no request is sent to Google and no analytics cookies are set. If you say no, nothing happens either. Only if you say yes is the Google script fetched at all.

The advertising purposes in Google Analytics are switched off, covering ad storage, sharing of ad data and personalised advertising.

Analytics cookies set if you say yes

These are set by Google, not by Splenix. The names and lifetimes below were observed on this site rather than taken from a general list.

• _ga. Tells browsers apart, so repeat visits are not counted as new people. Lasts 400 days.
• _ga_KVRHRGQJ57. Keeps track of the visit for this particular Analytics property. Lasts 400 days.

Provider and where the data is processed

Google Analytics is provided by Google. Google acts as a data processor for Splenix, and the processing may happen outside Norway and the EEA.

How to say no

Choose Decline in the choice shown on your first visit. Nothing is loaded and no analytics cookies are set. The site works exactly the same without analytics, and nothing becomes unavailable.

Declining takes as few clicks as accepting, and the two choices are shown with equal weight.

How to withdraw your consent

At the bottom of every page there is a Cookie settings link. It opens the choice again, and you can say no even if you said yes before.

When you withdraw consent, the analytics cookies that were set are deleted and the page is reloaded, so anything already running in the browser stops. After that no new requests go to Google. The necessary Splenix cookies stay, since they remember your language and the choice you just made.

When you are asked again

Your choice is stored for six months. After that we ask again. We also ask again if the purpose, the provider or the question itself changes in a meaningful way, so that you get to decide on what actually applies.
